Fault tolerant protection of data centre critical infrastructure & security

Having several purpose-built, state of the art data centres around the world, the company has an enviable reputation and interconnected infrastructure that few can rival.
As part of an ongoing expansion program, a new build data centre close to existing and fully operational DC facilities in Ireland was required to service continuing cloud computing demand. The facilities management team had made the decision to deploy a BMS and security access control system from Johnson Controls. A suitable fault tolerant solution was required to ensure zero downtime of this critical data centre management and control system.
On the recommendation of Johnson Controls, 24/7 Uptime was approached to provide technical consultancy, project management, installation and ongoing support services for the fault tolerant infrastructure deployment. Having an existing track record of providing enterprise class solutions, Stratus ftServer was selected as the preferred fault tolerant solution.
Such was the scale and importance of protecting this flagship data centre facility that the decision was taken to deploy 2 x ftServer units along with an attached fault tolerant ftStorage array to allow full system protection. This also provided the flexibility of rapid migration of the protected Johnson Controls virtual machines from unit to unit as required.
The deployment of the fault tolerant platform took place during the handover of the data centre from the construction contractors to the DC operating company. 24/7 Uptime engineers ensured a smooth and successful implementation and go live during testing on-site conditions.
