Many organisations have lean manufacturing strategies in place to make them more efficient but could be missing a big part of the picture.  No matter how efficient the rest of the business is, if IT isn’t running at full speed then neither are their end-to-end operations.  And that can mean lost revenues, missed deadlines, dissatisfied customers and even contractual or regulatory penalties.

 

More and more manufacturers are adopting virtualisation software on the factory floor to consolidate servers and applications but that does create a critical computing environment.  Virtualisation doesn’t protect a server from failing.  However, adding in high availability options can prevent system downtime before it strikes.
